Last March we put out a Market Update on the State of the Consumer. At that time, the consumer was in relatively good financial shape, and we did not have concerns about a drop in consumer spending. Things have changed since that time. Today the banks are more cautious with their lending and are charging much higher interest rates to compensate for anticipated future losses.
